Barones Waterice & Ice cream: Reviews & Ratings
Best ice cream for a nice late summer evening. I highly recommend the Upside Down Banana Split( it is apparently 1 quart of Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla Ice cream with 5 toppings of your choice and whipped cream. Cherry on top of course.
I've tried several items on the menu. The ice cream is so good and very addicting. The shakes are some of the best I've had. I've also had the water ice. Adults and children love it. Barones is seasonal and cash only.
wonderful selection of sundaes, banana splits, hard ice creams, water ice. Told my wife that it's boardwalk ice cream treats but back home. Cash only. Figure $5-7 per pserson for fancier items. And worth it. Also doggie ice cream and a dog bone cookie for the 4-legged friends in the group ahead of me.
Black raspberry water ice was very good. They do take cards for payment now.
A total gem. Cheap and they don't skimp out on the toppings ! Huge Milkshakes, great soft serve and $2 chocolate covered bananas.
Ice cream, soft serve and scoop, is delicious. Water ice and Sundaes are great, too! I was served by the son of the business owner, I believe. He was extremely kind and patient.
Fantastic neighborhood corner ice cream place. Family owned. Great serving sizes and really good prices. If you are cruising down Burmont stop by for a treat.
Ice Cream was awesome! Staff was very nice as well.

Barones Waterice & Ice Cream, nestled at 532 Burmont Rd in Drexel Hill, PA, is a true taste of boardwalk nostalgia delivered locally. This seasonal spot shines brightest on warm summer evenings, where the air fills with the sweet aroma of handcrafted ice cream and refreshing water ice. Barones offers a joyful mix of classic and indulgent treats, from creamy hard ice creams and soft serve to vibrant water ice that both kids and adults savor.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Upside Down Banana Split, a generous concoction featuring a quart of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream, crowned with five toppings of your choice, whipped cream, and a classic cherry on top. It’s a feast in a bowl, perfect for sharing or indulging solo during a leisurely summer night, just as John recommends.
Another highlight is their shakes—rich, thick, and generously sized, they rank among the best in the area. The affordability and portion size make them irresistible. Meanwhile, the water ice options, like the refreshing black raspberry variety, offer a lighter but equally satisfying alternative, adding an icy, fruity dimension to the menu.
What adds charm to Barones is not just the quality but also the welcoming vibe. It's a cash-only spot—though cards are now accepted—that keeps the experience authentic and straightforward. There’s a palpable sense of community, with treats even available for four-legged friends, including doggie ice cream and special bone-shaped cookies, ensuring no one is left out of the joy.
Random delights like $2 chocolate-covered bananas and sundaes bursting with toppings reflect Barones' philosophy: generous portions without skimping on flavor or fun. Prices generally run from $5 to $7 for their more elaborate creations, making it an excellent value for memorable, crave-worthy treats.
In essence, Barones Waterice & Ice Cream is more than a dessert stop; it’s a celebration of summer sweetness, executed with care and a dash of nostalgia. Whether you’re chasing classic flavors or seeking a new favorite—Barones consistently delivers joy, spoonful by spoonful.
